چکیده

During every Australian summer fires are common in the south-eastern region of the continent. The combined forces of climate, topography and vegetation make Victoria in particular, one of the most fire prone regions on earth (DSE 2003). Throughout its history, Victoria has seen a number of devastating bushfires, including Black Friday 1939, Ash Wednesday 1983, and more recently in the northeast of the State in 2003. The loss of life combined with the damage caused to land and property results in a heavy cost to the community. In Victoria, two of the organizations involved in fire management are the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and the Country Fire Authority (CFA). Both use fire ‘meters’ to determine potential fire behaviour given certain conditions. Values for temperature, wind speed, fuel load and vegetation type are input and a numerical estimate of fire danger given. There are a number of different meters used for different locations and environmental types. The most common meter used in Victoria is the McArthur Meter (CSIR

A Computer-Supported Methodology for Recording and Visualising Visitor Behaviour in Museums

Developing user modelling and personalisation techniques for museums requires datasets about visitor behaviour in the physical museum space (i. e., visitor pathways). Advancing traditional paper-based tracking techniques, this demonstration presents a computer-supported methodology for (1) observationally recording visitors’ time-annotated pathways in physical museums, and (2) post-collection p...

Techniques for evaluating wildfire simulators via the simulation of historical fires using the Australis simulator

A methodology for validating fire spread simulation systems using historical fire data is presented. The key features of this methodology are (a) quantitative comparison between simulator-generated fire perimeters and fire perimeters from an independently produced fire reconstruction at multiple time points during the fire, and (b) extensive sensitivity analyses on simulation variables includin...

P97: Comparison of Post-Traumatic Syndrome Disorder (PTSD) in War-Affected and Fire-Damaged People

The purpose of this study was to compare symptoms of PTSD among war affected people and employees in the fire station. Totally, 60 people affected by war and 60 fire workers were selected using simple random sampling. By completing PCL inventory, samples of PTSD were characterized. Data was analysed through SPSS software by independent t-test. As the results showed, severity of PTSD symptoms am...

Behaviour Comparison of the Taleqan Dam Using Instrumentation Data and Radar Interferometry

Dams are one of the most important fundamental structures all around the world. Given the high volume of water in the dams, they are susceptible to damage and destruction, leading to large financial losses and fatality. Therefore, by installation of instrumentation data in the dam’s body and execution of terrestrial surveying network, stability and safety of dams can be monitored. However, occa...

اثر‌بخشی آتش‌سوزی تجویز‌شده، کنترل مکانیکی و شیمیایی بر مدیریت ورک (Rosa persica) در مراتع تخریب‌شده

Invasive plant control is a significant challenge for natural resources management. Rosa persica (Michx ex. Juss.) is one of the invasive species in Iran. It has  been rapidly expanded to the areas where it has introduced. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of five treatments: 1) control, 2) fire, 3) cutting, 3) tilling, 4) chemical techniques (glyphsate application) in controlling ...
